Galletta's Karting Club

We race customized “1-WD backyard racing go-karts” every weekend from June through October on a dirt track behind Galletta’s Greenhouses in the Town of Oswego, New York, USA. While we’re mostly just a bunch of friends and family having some competitive fun, we’re always looking for more drivers to join us, and we have arrive-and-drive karts on hand if you want to try it out!

• – Winter-Spring Closed (NOV through MAY)

NEXT RACE:
SATURDAY OCTOBER 12TH, 2024 – THE 27TH RUNNING OF THE GALLETTA’S GREENHOUSE KARTING KLASSIC 200-LAPPER!

The exact timing is TBA, but we are eyeing an afternoon start due to the race’s length (and inevitable problems that evolve as the race continues) and by the request of a few visiting drivers. The starting grid will be based on time trials, however, drivers who won at least one regular season race event in 2024 will get priority positioning over drivers who have not yet won a feature in 2024, and drivers who have raced in the regular 2024 season get a guaranteed kart over those who have not raced in the regular 2024 season. The race will be traditional 200 laps, scored the same as regular season races except cautions count and kart change is a loss of one lap. All drivers who enter will have one “quick repair timeout” and drivers who won one during the regular season will have an additional one for each win. Race length may be shortened based on active driver vote if there are extreme issues with track/timing/kart/weather conditions. History of our Championship Event is found here.

After a full month of struggles with driver attendance and weather, everything FINALLY cooperated for near-perfect conditions for a race night. We ran Twin-25s and had some pretty good racing! Labor Day Weekend ’24 – Congrats to Galletta’s Karters at Oswego Speedway Classic Weekend!

Congrats to occasional Galletta’s Karter Tyler Thompson on the 2024 Oswego Speedway Supermodified Classic 200 Victory (his 2nd Oswego Super Classic win), as well as one of our regular racers — AND current points leader (as of 8/14/2024) — AJ Larkin, scoring 6th (and an honorable mention to former old-school karter Cameron Rowe Sr. getting 2nd) in the Small Block Supermodified Classic! Afterward, we realized even more Galletta’s Karters than we mentioned and didn’t want to leave anyone out: Griffin Miller, Tony DeStevens, Lou LeVea Jr., and Dennis Richmond all got some Classic action in as well. We always say if we could get all these guys along with several of our All-Time Points Karters to all be in a kart on race day, the competition would be AMAZING!

About Us

What We Do:
We race customized backyard racing go-karts weekly on a dirt track behind Galletta’s Greenhouses in the Town of Oswego, New York, USA. We’re mostly just a bunch of friends and family, but always looking for more drivers to join us!

What We’re About:
Founded in the early 1990s, Galletta’s Karting Club & Backyard Speedway was created to race go-karts as competitively as we can for as purposefully affordable as we can (via rules), using karts that are hybrid – something between a prefabricated racing kart and a yard kart that can race fast and safe on both pay tracks and backyard tracks alike, all the while having drivers that are highly talented and experienced racers WITHOUT spending wars. The original, longest-running, and largest karting class in the area, we are also the easiest to join — we have over 20 equally fast, feature-winning, arrive-and-drive karts and a over the years of hundreds of races have amassed a massive list of hundreds of drivers join into the weekly Summer-Fall races. If you like it, rent, build, or buy your own for a few hundred dollars to join and compete (instead of a few thousand like most pay track classes to take to join and compete, as we CAP the type or parts and prices). And, some of the more experienced drivers at Galletta’s have been racing more than a decade before any of the local pay tracks were built and some have hundreds of more races under their belts. Come race where Kyle Reuter once called, “the Rucker Park of karting.”

When Do We Usually Race?:
Races are scheduled every Summer Sunday (June-August) evening, and then every Fall Saturday (September-October) afternoon (unless poor driver attendance or bad weather forces us to cancel). Exact timing TBA and based on active driver consensus. This is subject to change based on the weather’s effect on the track condition, and driver count. In addition, our schedule is flexible, and depending on weather and driver availability, we can occasionally change to Fridays or Saturdays to beat rain or for a special event. But our go-to dates for racing are usually every Summer Sunday and every Fall Saturday that we can race.
